Thanks to Tina Mohn, Property Rights Manager, Columbus Recreation and Parks. Within 24 hours of a call to report the Overbrook Drive wire fence was unfurled, Tina had it repaired. It looks like the wire was cut and a section removed. Officer Riley is investigating to see if the damaged fence is related to the cutting and removing of trees in that area.

The Division of Natural Areas and Preserves is proposing a new license plate where proceeds will go towards land protection, management (including getting rid of invasive species!) and education.

Proposed Natural Areas & Preserves License Plate

We need to have 1000 signatures before we can proceed to the next step to finalize the plate, so please consider printing out this Petition to establish a license plate, signing it and mailing it to the address below. Even better, fill out the entire sheet with your family members, friends and neighbors signatures and then send it in! You need to put your license plate number or driver’s license number on the form or your signature will not count. Your signature does not obligate you to purchase the plate.

Well, it’s not exactly a scoop, but Joe Blundo in his “walk to work with Joe” week stopped by the rain garden a few weeks ago. Here he is taking some notes about the garden from information provided by Greg Schneider. Joe Blundo’s Walk to Work

Heads up for Friday, September 21st. That Friday morning is “Walk to Work with Joe Day.”  Joe has seen the garden from the bus and would like to stop by on his walk to work to see the garden.  Details are still being worked out, but estimates put him near the rain garden about 8:10-8:20 that morning.  More to come…

The rain garden is planted! At least 33 people helped out on the  project that was documented by NBC4 and ABC6, Jennifer Nesbitt and a staff photographer from ThisWeek, and Dan Trittschuh from The Booster. Be sure to walk or drive by the site at Overbrook and High Street. More photos are sure to follow.

Wheelbarrow    Rain Garden planting

We’re meeting Saturday, April 21 from 9-11 am to plant hundreds of trees in the area near the intersection of Indianola and Overbrook. If driving, please park at the Graham School on Indianola. Remember to bring gardening gloves and a shovel or trowel. Can’t dig? This is also a prime time to pull garlic mustard.
