Columbia Gas

Liz called today, 12/19/08, to say: Columbia Gas will take a two week holiday break from the gas meter and line work they are doing in the Adena Brook neighborhood.

COLUMBIA GAS WORK IN PROCESS
If you have any Columbia Gas issues/problems, please contact Liz Parks at 206.2377. She is onsite and can immediately address issues.
Liz  is in the process of making appointments with neighbors for the gas line and meter relocation, replacement work. There are disruptions: traffic, staging areas on the streets for equipment, and gas being turned off as our homes are checked and then gas turned back on (re-lit). I talked to Liz a couple times this morning. She is working hard to make sure we know which right of way areas are being dug and exactly what will happen. She along with other Columbia Gas workers walked my property to show me what would happen, where they would dig. I appreciate her friendly and caring attitude. I am especially grateful that our gas lines are being replaced. This work is very important. Columbia Gas and Miller Pipe are working together. This gas meter/line work is separate from the CIP work. After the gas line work comes the storm water improvement work (CIP 749). Jackie Fields Excavating is the contractor.
As promised by Pam Learman from Columbia Gas, customers affected by gas meter and line relocation on Canyon, Glenmont, and Yaronia received letters dated August 19th to tell us more about this work. Work will be done on these streets: Canyon Drive, Lenappe Drive, Glenmont Avenue, Wynding Drive, Glenmont Place, Yaronia Drive.
The letter states:
As the project occurs, the following steps will occur:
1. RELOCATE the main gas pipeline. This pipe usually runs underneath your street or alley.
2. REPLACE some customer service lines–the pipe that runs form the main gas pipeline to your home or business
3. RELOCATE any indoor gas meterrs to the outside of your home or business. If the meter is already outside your home or business, this step will not be necessary.
When this work is complete, your neighborhood will have the most modern, safe, reliable gas delivery system available. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
COLUMBIA GAS PROJECTS
We’ve made a good friend in Pam Learman, NiSource/Columbia Gas communications person. There are two gas projects scheduled in our neighborhood. As I understand it, this is what is happening:
[1] Replacement of “prone to failure gas risers”
If you have a “prone to failure” riser, you would have received a letter stating this. These risers will be replaced in the next three years. Only people who have had hazardous gas leaks have had this work done already (as part of their gas leak repair). There is some hand digging involved in the riser replacement and your service will be shut off when the riser is replaced. The work can be done in one day. You will be notified ahead of time. . A Columbia rep will knock on your door to tell you about the work and if you’re not home, a door hanger will tell you the cell number to call to arrange movement of the riser as well as to re-light your appliances.

[2] Gas Line Replacement
Columbia Gas is waiting for a permit from the City of Columbus to begin this work. The estimated date the work will begin is September. The work involves replacing some old gas lines with plastic lines and movement of any residential gas meters that are located INSIDE a home to outside the home. The line work will mostly be done in the street, and in some easement areas. Pam said a letter will be mailed directly to neighbors to share more information just before they actually begin the work. Approximately 125 homes are involved in this work. A flyer with a cell phone number will provide a contact so you can coordinate access to your home to move the meter. If you plan to travel in September, be sure to inform your house-sitter or a neighbor to help provide access. (For more information, Adena Brook Team member Kip Patterson wrote a description of the riser replacement process for those homeowners who will be involved and it is on this blog.
