CIP 749

Question: If you live on Canyon Drives, North, South and Northeast Lenappe Drive, let me know by sending an email to susanbarrett@columbus.rr.com if you would be interested in having a rain garden installed along the street in front of your home. The more rain gardens we install in the neighborhood, the more we reduce the effects of erosion due to stormwater runoff

We are moving forward with the investigation and design of additional stormwater improvements in the Adena Brook area.  I would like to ask for your assistance in obtaining public input within the areas of our study.  I have attached documents for your use and reference.  These are areas where we are considering additional storm sewer improvements (pipe and inlets).  We would like to distribute the  flooding questionnaire (pdf file) to residents in this area to assist us in documenting existing flooding problems.  It would be very helpful if you could distribute this questionnaire via email and/or website.  Additionally, I have attached a file titled ‘Raingarden’.  This file includes most of the Adena Brook area where we are considering potential sites for raingardens.  We will select sites based on both design suitability as well as resident participation (where residents are most likely to help install and maintain plantings).  It would also be very helpful if you could solicit input from the community for potential raingarden locations (residents who would like to have a garden along the street in front of their home and willing to participate in the maintenance of the plantings). Please understand that the raingarden concept is still relatively new to us and we are only considering their use on this project.  We are requesting public input to aid us in our decision for their suitability on this project.

CIP 749
The work on Canyons Drive and Northeast Lenappe will likely be completed by the end of November. The work on Glenmont and Yaronias will not begin until April.
Mark Timbrook is the City Engineer for this project. Mark writes:
I met with the contractor this afternoon on Yaronia Drive.  We will most likely be delayed until early spring due to Columbia Gas running behind schedule on their relocations for Yaronia Dr and Glenmont Ave.  The benefit to this may be an opportunity to make some adjustments to our storm sewer location and save some trees – but no promises yet.

We have a lot of road work this week:

The Canyon/Glenmont storm water improvement project is working on Canyon at the top of the hill above Overbrook.  Expect Canyon to be impassable from Overbrook up to Glenmont place and South Canyon east towards Sharon.  The contractor works four, ten-hour days from Monday through Thursday, and leaves all the roads open at night,  As they get into more challenging areas there may be some overnight closures.

Crews will be paving Karl Road starting Tuesday (8/26) between Morse Road and
S.R 161. There will be various lane restrictions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily
until mid-September, weather permitting. (City of Columbus)

Westbound Cooke Road will close on Tuesday (8/26) just west of Maize Road. This
is a 24-hour-a-day closure that will be in effect until mid-September, weather
permitting. Traffic will be detoured using Maize Road, Morse Road and I-71.
Crews will be working on utilities. (Fishel Co.)

Mark Timbrook, City of Columbus Sewer Systems Engineer for this project, writes:
The contractor marked each tree with a white ‘ X ‘ this morning (August 4).  We noted that several trees appeared diseased.  One tree that we would like to take another look at with Jack Low [Park and Recreation forester] is the 22″ Sycamore in the grassed triangle at Glenmont Place and Canyon Drive North.  We will consider saving this tree unless Jack Low views it as a risk.
Location of these trees:
601 Yaronia (easement area, on road edge) 2
Glenmont Place and Canyon Drive (triangular easement plot) 1  MAY NOT NEED TO BE REMOVED
354 Canyon Drive N (easement area, on road edge) 2
640 Yaronia Drive S, at intersection of Yaronia Drive South and Yaronia Drive N (the ash tree between the road and no outlet signs, on road edge) 1
599 Glenmont easement, 3
579 Glenmont (easement) 2

Hello, we will begin passing out flyers within the community today to inform everyone of our mobilization and tentative start date of August 11 (digging etc. may be a day or two later). The flyer says:
This letter is to inform you that construction on the new storm water upgrades for Glenmont and Canyon will begin August 11. Fields Excavating , Inc. will be the prime contractor for this project. You have a very nice neighborhood and community and Fields will make every attempt to keep it that way. We will work this project as quickly and with as minimal inconveniences to the residents as possible. Traffic control will be provided as needed and in order to maintain resident’s access to their homes. We appreciate your patience in this matter, If there are any special access requirements or special needs please contact Jeff Campbell (superintendent on site) or Jackie Fields at 740-532-1780 ext. 206. this project will be complete early 2009.

Kip Patterson is an Adena Brook neighbor and member of the Adena Brook Community Team of neighbors. He holds maps of Adena Brook, the water and sewer lines. He also has some maps of work of CIPs in our watershed. He and Susan Michael Barrett talk to and attend meetings with city workers related to capital improvement projects. We share what we learn with Adena Brook neighbors. Look for messages from Kip Patterson about CIP 749 in the coming months.

I attended the pre-work meeting this morning.

The work is scheduled to start on August 11th, but may not because of our good friends Columbia Gas not getting their preliminary work done.  The contractor folks are very nice and asked for our help perhaps with notifications.

They will have a lot of fill dirt to get rid of, if you know of any takers.  Realize that we are talking the smallest quantity being a large dump truck load.  They also need a site where they can store materials.

I also met Brian Haemmerle, an engineer with the water department.  He has just received the assignment to design the water line replacement for Lenappe and Canyon.  He is also going to look into the continuing leak under Cooke that is feeding Adena Brook.
