After returning from Europe in mid-August, I saw the foxes (sometimes one, sometimes two) fairly regularly for the rest of that month. But in September their appearances have been less frequent, and I haven't seen more than one at a time. I'm certain that I saw one in the daytime on Sunday, September 21, which is the day after you saw the dead one. I'm sure of the date because my son was visiting, and we both saw it out the window. Cali, saw something in the ravine by your house about a month ago at 6 am. I walked to the edge and it was a fox. I could not see the color but I could tell by the tale. Hopefully the female stays nearby and some of their kits will live in the ravine. They're graceful creatures. We've heard them whistling and shrieking below the house throughout the summer. I think Cari and I heard foxes (plural) several nights ago, so maybe they'll stay. Maybe they were mourning the body. I know that coyotes keep family ties and serenade their kin with melodic howls--frequently between parents and their offspring--like a coyote cell phone? Anyway I'm saddened by the untimely roadkill and unfortunately automobiles are major wildlife killers. Best Regards, David Anderson Too bad about the fox.
