BILLBOARD AT COOKE AND INDIANOLA
For the third time, Clear Channel (contractors) left removal remains of a billboard at Cooke and Indianola, northeast side of the street. Adena Brook neighbors Mark and Carina Carter mow, edge and pick up litter at the Cooke/Indianola corner, at least monthly, and in the summer, they work weekly. Carina discoverd the litter and called Clear Channel. Carina writes: I spoke with a person at Clear Channel today about the litter mess and he apoligized and asked that we give him a day or two to get it cleaned up. I have his name and phone # so I’ll call back if the clean-up doesn’t happen soon. He told me that Clear Channel and other outdoor advertisers are moving to biodegradable plastic to cover bill boards instead of paper.

LADIES OF LONGFORD CONCERT PLANNED – MARK THE DATE: SEPTEMBER 6, 8 PM
I am so excited to share this information! Neighbor Thom Mc Cain writes: “We have finally gotten a date to host our fund raiser concert with Hilda and the Ladies of Longford. It is Saturday, September 6th. Jan and I would like the proceeds to support two of our favorite Neighborhood causes — The Graham School’s new rain garden on Indianola and the Adena Brook Community. The Ladies have agreed to share the “gate” with us. The “competition” for the day is OSU Football, but the game is a noon game. We were planning on an 8:00 PM start and charging $20.00 (with special or free student admission).” The concert is held at the McCain residence, 146 Glenmont Avenue.

WEST NILE SPRAYING

State your address. By law, if there is a state of emergency regarding West Nile Virus declared, all properties will be sprayed. Dale Harmon writes: Once we receive your letter request, I will mail you a confirmation letter that your address is on the No-Fog request list. Columbus Public Health attempts to honor all no-fog requests. However, under circumstances in which a mosquito-borne disease outbreak is considered likely, the Health Commissioner and/or the Board of Health may direct that such requests be ignored.
Fogging locations are determined based on the number of Culex sp. mosquitoes which are caught. The normal threshold is 200+ Culex mosquitoes. This is in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention West Nile Virus Guidelines for Surveillance, Prevention and Control. COLUMBIA GAS PROJECTS
We’ve made a good friend in Pam Learman, NiSource/Columbia Gas communications person. There are two gas projects scheduled in our neighborhood. As I understand it, this is what is happening:
[1] Replacement of “prone to failure gas risers”
If you have a “prone to failure” riser, you would have received a letter stating this. These risers will be replaced in the next three years. Only people who have had hazardous gas leaks have had this work done already (as part of their gas leak repair). There is some hand digging involved in the riser replacement and your service will be shut off when the riser is replaced. The work can be done in one day. You will be notified ahead of time. . A Columbia rep will knock on your door to tell you about the work and if you’re not home, a door hanger will tell you the cell number to call to arrange movement of the riser as well as to re-light your appliances.
[2] Gas Line Replacement
Columbia Gas is waiting for a permit from the City of Columbus to begin this work. The estimated date the work will begin is September. The work involves replacing some old gas lines with plastic lines and movement of any residential gas meters that are located INSIDE a home to outside the home. The line work will mostly be done in the street, and in some easement areas. Pam said a letter will be mailed directly to neighbors to share more information just before they actually begin the work. Approximately 125 homes are involved in this work. A flyer with a cell phone number will provide a contact so you can coordinate access to your home to move the meter. If you plan to travel in September, be sure to inform your house-sitter or a neighbor to help provide access. CLINTONVILLE COMMUNITY FUND AWARDS $1000 TO ADENA BROOK COMMUNITY

A lively discussion of pros and cons to three Clintonville improvement projects was recorded at the July 31st meeting at the Whetstone Library. D Searcy writes:
Forty-six people completed the UIRF tally at the end of the meeting. The results: Overbrook Overlook: 29, 15, 2; Whetstone Drive: 9, 6, 31; Crosswalks: 8, 25, 13
We were asked to vote 1, 2, 3 in order of our preference. Prior to the tally, D broke us into 4 groups where we listed and reported pros and cons to each of the 3 proposed projects. The results are listed in order of preference. For example, Overbrook Overlook had 29 votes for 1st choice, 15 votes for 2nd choice, and 2 votes for 3rd choice.
